AV Receivers
Features to consider:

Wattage – Look at the wattage specifications to make sure that your speakers will be able to handle the power of your receiver.

Upscaling - Some new recievers upscale your standard defination inputs to High Defination via component cables or HDMI cable. The different upscale levels are 720p, 1080i, and 1080p.
- Surround Sound Capabilities – Since your receiver will be used in a home theater system, this is very important.

Inputs – The number of inputs should be equal to or greater than the number of components you plan on adding to your system.

Outputs - make sure that the output on the reciever matches the input on your tv.

Zones - Recievers will either be single zone, (one set of speakers playing the same thing), or multizone, (two sets of speakers in different areas playing different inputs on the same reciever).
